COR is involved in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s “gemeinsam klimaneutral 2030” initiative

Companies throughout the East Westphalia-Lippe region have joined forces with the objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2030. The initiator is the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

With the goal of climate neutrality for as many regional companies as possible by 2030 the Bielefeld Chamber of Industry and Commerce (East Westphalia) and the Lippe/Detmold Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Lippe) have launched the “gemeinsam klimaneutral 2030” climate neutrality initiative. “We specifically wanted to create a vehicle for the very committed companies and ‘forward thinkers’ in our region, and to encourage other enterprises that are looking for a climate neutrality accelerator to get involved in the initiative,” explained Meier-Scheuven, President of the Bielefeld Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

Twenty-five companies in different sectors have signed up for the initiative to date. They include media group Bertelsmann and furniture manufacturer COR Sitzmöbel Helmut Lübke GmbH & Co. KG in the Gütersloh area.

By signing a voluntary commitment declaration the companies undertake to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at their sites to a climate neutral level by 31 December 2030 at the latest. This involves improving their operational energy efficiency and establishing climate protection goals in their business strategy. Although there will be no external audits or certifications, the participating companies are required to submit climate assessment data to the CIC once a year.
More than anything, the climate initiative serves as a platform for participants to share good practices en route to climate neutrality, according to CIC General Manager Sievers. “We want to show people what can be achieved and how to achieve it.”
